Smell the flowers, Blow out the Candles

24th
Nov. × ’08

Something that I’m going to take home with me from this place is so simple and yet, so valuable. To feel the depth of ones beauty, be able to embrace it, feel seen even though you are alone, smile inwardly and geuninely, smell the flowers… blow out the candles. Smell the flowers, blow out the [...]

I’ve been writing faithfully every day in my moleskine. An entire journal has been dedicated to this trip… and I may end up needing two. I’ve promised myself not to read over anything I write until the [ long ] plane ride home. There is so much to take in in such a small amount [...]

I'm twenty.

Nov. × ’08

My birthday was this past Thursday on the sixth. I’m finally twenty.
When I was twelve, everyone thought I was seventeen.
When I was actually seventeen, most assumed I had graduated… college.
Now that I’m actually twenty, my soul feels much older, and younger, all at the same time.
I’ll have to elaborate on the incredible day I had [...]

Circles, Corners

This trip started with a dream over a year ago, July 2007. It’s the most vivid dream I’ve had to this day and it still shakes me every single time I think about it. This dream has yet to be written down… because I simply can’t. I’ve told it to close friends countless times who [...]

Elmon is in Grade 1 and Deli, Grade R (Kindergarden).
They’re both sponsored here at the school.
We’ll be able to spend some time with their family in the next few weeks — visiting all the sponsored (and to-be sponsored) kids homes.
Like every child here, their gaze leaves me speechless.
So much is being said…

After a long, good week, we rewarded ourselves by sneaking into a resort pool on Saturday and Sunday in the sorching, hot sun. Perfect. The kids ate it up.
A little proof:

Reflections of Week Two.

31st
Oct. × ’08

As expected, there’s a lot going on in me while I’m here. I came with a lot of questions needing answered concerning what’s next, how I will take those steps I know I should, who I am in my God, and in turn, learning who I am all over again. It’s a heartwrenching, beautiful process [...]
